Smith family members who served in the Great War

W17HenryThomasSmith.jpg

Second Lieutenant Henry Thomas Bayard Smith, Queen's Own Hussars, killed in action while in command of a group of machine guns near Albert, aged 20

Eleven members of the family lost their lives while serving in the armed forces and a further 44, with suggested Jersey connections, saw active service in World War 1. Because of the difficulties inherent in researching members of the Smith family, we have listed only those with established Jersey family connections. Family connections are only shown when we are entirely satisfied of their accuracy.

The dates shown are often birth or baptism dates from our database, not necessarily those shown on service records, and parishes shown are parish of birth, where known, not the parish in which individuals were living when they joined up.
