Origin of Surname

We have not been able to find an explanation for the origin of this name, but it probably comes from the French for slow. Probably the best clue is the family motto (from the Priaulx Library) "Tardif haste-toi".

The surname can be found in island records as early as 1364

The main concentration of Tardifs was in St Martin, though inevitably many of them moved to St Peter Port.
