The Transit, a wooden paddle steamer owned by the Commercial Steam Packet Company, was launched in 1936 at Poplar

Transit was 126 feet long and her engines developed 80 hp.

She started operations between London and Spain. She was transferred to the Southampton-Channel Islands route in 1838, briefly operated between London and the islands, and then reverted to the Southampton route.

She followed the South Western with the Southampton mail on 28 April 1845 but was replaced with newer vessels and only returned to island service as a cargo vessel in the 1850s. Transit first came to Jersey in August 1839. She was withdrawn from Channel Island service in 1855 and ended as a coal hulk in Southampton docks.

She was involved in a collision in November 1882 and sank.
