An Anglo-Saxon surname, this is ultimately derived from the German personal name Waldhar, from wasl = 'rule' and hari = 'army'

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism of Henry son of Samuel Walteur and Marthe Picot in St Helier in 1707. The name appears in Jersey records in several of the variations below
