Jersey has produced many famous people who were true academics, and some who might loosely be described as such. The meaning of the noun is 'a teacher or scholar in a university or other institute of higher education' but it has come to be applied to all of the following, whose achievements deserve the adjective 'academic', 'relating to education and scholarship'
