Historic adverts for private schools

Among the very first businesss advertisements published in Jersey, in the third edition of Mathieu Alexandre's second Jersey newspaper Gazette de l'Ile de Jersey on 19 August 1786, Jean Le Boutillier announced that he had been approached by parents to open a boarding school and as soon as he secured ten applications he would acquire a suitable property and open the school. He also advised the recommencement of his evening school from 3 October 1786. Although Alexandre had launched his first publication, Magazin de l'Ile de Jersey in 1784, followed by the Gazette in 1786, this was only the second issue to carry advertising

1824 adverts

To go by the advertising in the Chronique de Jersey, St Helier was positively awash with private schools and academies in 1824
