Anleys of St John

This tree was added in 2020 by Guy Dixon, based on the early 1900s research of Charles Langton, principally in court records, which explains placements without reference to church registers
Anley family page and links to other trees
In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

- ↑ Godparents: Philippe Le Vavasseur dit Durell and Anne Le Vavasseur dit Durell; Oncle et Tante
- ↑ Baptised in 1791 as "Guilleaume", he used the English "William", other than at the time of his marriage. Langton has him as son of Thomas Anley, his uncle. No reason is supplied for this conclusion. William was an ecrivain (solicitor), living at Sans Souci, St Helier. A Lieutenant in the Militia, he died aged 59, in St Helier
- ↑ Receiver for Lambeth Water Works, 1851-1871
- ↑ Gentleman, son of the Rev Charles Michael Turner of Wexford, Ireland

- ↑ Lieutenant in the Militia; played a vital part in the Battle of Jersey (1781); Captain (1785). Anley, a popular hero, exemplified the problems faced by younger sons of formerly well-to-do families in an over-populated Island, in which the family was required by law to divide, each generation, its land. The grandson paternally of a successful merchant and maternally of a seigneur, Anley was obliged to make a living as a book-keeper in a butcher`s shop and was otherwise described by his political enemies as a "clerk at a slaughter-house". He became a champion of democracy; Constable of St Helier 1803-7 and then a Jurat (elected 1807 but disallowed, 1816-1827. G R Balleine wrote that "he became one of the chief speakers in the States, and from his profound knowledge of Jersey Law, was always listened to with respect": A Biographical Dictionary of Jersey, (Staples Press, 1948). Anley Street in St Helier is named after him
- ↑ Legitimised at her parents` marriage in 1803
- ↑ Langton mentions the name Baldwin. The Burials` Register, St Saviour, mentions only that Attilia was widow of Charles Philip Coote
- ↑ Officer in the Royal Marines (J B Payne, An Armorial of Jersey) and later a ship`s chandler at Tower Hamlets, Middlesex
- ↑ Ferdinand and Marie Elizabeth, nee Dumaresq, baptised at St Ann, Limehouse: Ferdinand Wright Anley (1789), Mary (1791-1796), William (1792), Charlotte (1796), Charles (1797) and Fredericka (1799), the year of her father`s death
- ↑ Edouard Anley, presumably the Edouard senior (1791) above, married and had descendants in Guernsey and England, which included several officers of the armed forces
- ↑ Her godparents were Jean Simon and Anne, nee Anley, his wife
- ↑ Godfather, as Jean Anley junior, of his niece, Marie Anley, in 1632. At this date, Jean Anley senior would have been his uncle, Jean, son of Richard
- ↑ Langton`s research in court records
- ↑ Pierre`s godfather was Thomas Le Mottais, a member of his grandmother`s family
- ↑ Godfather: Andrey Anley
- ↑ Thomas Anley, son of Jean, is known, from Elizabeth Anley`s burial record in 1643, to have married and had issue, unlike his first cousin, Thomas son of Thomas
- ↑ Godfather: Jean Anley, grandfather
- ↑ Godfather: Pierre Anley, who was her uncle
- ↑ Tentative placement as son of Richard. He was the godfather of Thomas, son of Jean Anley, son of Richard, in 1610
