The dates shown are often birth or baptism dates from our database, not necessarily those shown on service records, and parishes shown are parish of birth, where known, not the parish in which individuals were living when they joined up.
Notes on our list, abbreviations used etc
- Francis Ernest Barbier (1899-1916) (Tr), son of John and Alice, Private, 5th Canadian Pioneer Battalion, died The Jersey Roll of Honour gives his age at death as 21. When he joined the Canadian Pioneers he gave his date of birth as 22 May 1896, which would have made him 20 when he died seven months later. His baptism record and census returns show clearly that he was born in 1899, and so only 17 when he died. It also appears that he died within days of arriving in England with his unit, so never saw active service.
Two brothers of Francis Ernest
- Walter Barbier (1895- ) (St L) Private, Canadian Infantry, also gave a wrong date of birth (1897) when joining up in Canada
- John Francis Barbier (1886- ) (St My), husband of Annie Emily Gallichan, Private, Labour Corps
And a first cousin
- Alfred Duval Barbier (1891- ) (St H) son of Elizabeth Jane Barbier, grandson of Francois and Marie, nee Romeril
