The street was renowned for the poor condition of many of its residential properties over the years and demolition of slum dwellings started as early as 1937

Cannon Street in St Helier was best known in the 19th and 20th centuries as the home of Randall's Brewery, now closed. It was originally the place where the military stored their cannons
