Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

House of late 17th century origins retaining historic character and features including an earlier surviving gable, a possible blocked envier, integral hinge-stones, and traditional wellhead. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.

The west gable appears to have been constructed between circa 1680-1700. It incorporates two hinge-stones integral to the angles (these are originally for yard enclosure). Near the south angle hinge-stone can be seen the remains of what may be a rare surviving, now blocked, envier.

The east gable also has a stone fireplace, the corbels of which are supported by additional stone uprights, their original upright profiles are still clearly visible; there is a timber lintel and a modern grate and brick hood has been recently inserted, the original style and form appears late 17th century. All beams and joists are 19th century.
