Origins of surname

We have found no specific reference to the origin of Crapp, but it is almost certainly a variant of Crapper, which is an occupational surname for a picker of fruit or vegetables or a reaper of corn. The derivation is from the old English word cropp meaning 'head of a plant', which in Middle English became crop'.

Early records

The first appearance of this surname in Jersey records was the baptism of Elizabeth Crapper, daughter of Joseph and Elizabeth, in St Helier in 1828

  The Second Mate's certificate of Charles Henry Crapp, born in Jersey in 1842, the son of Charles and Elizabeth, nee Robinson. He married Elizabeth Yarsley (1844-1926) at St Saviour in 1867. They emigrated to Ontario in about 1872 and had nine daughters and one son
