Descendants of Anthony Keeping

Anthony Keeping is the earliest ancestor we have been able to find for brothers John and Michael, who moved to Jersey from Hampshire in the 1840s. We have established links between this tree and Descendants of Robert Keeping, rather than creating one new, and inevitably large, tree. Please note that some of this tree has not been checked against Hampshire records and relies on online trees, which contain some glaring errors. Most of the Keeping trees at Ancestry quote each other as sources. One tree purported to have 14 other trees as sources, but none of them seem now to exist. We hope that we have eliminated any errors in the sections of those trees which apply to this page, but there are still some dates which cause us concern

The respected Jersey researcher (sadly now deceased) whose online tree we have relied on for the early generations of this tree, shows David Keeping at generation 6 as the son of Mary Rumball (1704- ). As he was born between children of Joan Peke, this would mean that his parents were not married. This parentage is supported by one other online tree, but all other Keeping trees covering this branch show Joan Peke as David's mother and make no reference to a second wife or mistress.

March 2018: Further information has revealed that Mary Rumball was David Keeping's first wife, but died at the age of 22 in 1726, five months after they married. She was not the mother of any of his children.

The tree was first added to the site in 2016, and has been reviewed in 2017, 2018, 2020 and 2022

Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
