Descendants of Charles Dobin



This submitted tree has been checked against Jersey records, which appeared to show that the family came to the island from Dorset, not Somerset, as shown in a number of online trees. However, the marriage record for Mary Ann, which was not found before, shows that she was born in Somerset, although her brother Charles and father Charles were born in Dorset, so the family clearly moved around the West Country before settling in Jersey. Online trees contain some significant errors, both of dates and names of spouses

The tree was added in 2017 and reviewed in 2018, when marriage records and occupations were added

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

  4. ↑ Online trees show Rebecca Elizabeth as the daughter of Charles Walker and Esther Larbalestier, but the record of her marriage to Charles George Dobin shows her as Rebecca Larbalestier, daughter of Charles Larbalestier, plasterer. There was a marriage between Charles Walker and Esther Sophie Larbalestier in St Helier in 1861, so it is possible that Rebecca was the illegitimate daughter of Esther Sophie four years before her marriage, but it seems surprising that she and her step-father would have been named as Larbalestier on her marriage certificate. The only Rebecca Elizabeth Walker we have been able to find born and baptised in Jersey is shown in the St Saviour register in 1850 as the daughter of Francis Vesey Walker and Charlotte Holt
