Descendants of Charles Pearce

The progression of the spelling of the surname has been reproduced as in the tree submitted to us in 2015. The tree has not been reviewed since.

We are not entirely convinced that William (1796- ) married to Mary Parden, fits into this tree as shown. There are records of William (1826- ) being the first child of William (1796- ) and Elizabeth Davey, with the couple having up to ten other children, and he is shown as William Davey Pearce. It must be the same William, however, because the coincidence of two Williams born in the same year with a father William, and ultimately emigrating to Richmond, Adelaide, is too much to accept.

William (1826- ), who is clearly shown in St Helier baptism records as William Pardon Pearce, son of William and Mary, is also shown as having two siblings, Mary Ann and Aquila, baptised in 1827 and 1830 respectively. Perhaps William (1796- ) left his wife in Jersey and returned to Cornwall to marry again, but the William and Elizabeth Davey are shown as having four children born between 1835 and 1830.

It is not beyond possibility that there was only one William (1796- ) travelling backwards and forwards between Jersey and Cornwall, fathering children in both places over a period of five years. It would not be the first, or last time, that this has happened.
