The new house was named after the sailing ship Leda its owner`s presence in Italy that year and the fact that a Thomas Morel was master in 1844 of the Jersey vessel Neptune, combine to infer that Morel was a master mariner

Morel Brothers moved in 1876 from owning sailing ship, into steam: A G Jamieson, A People of the Sea (Methuen, 1986), which is also the source for the Morel of Cardiff information above. By 1888, their fleet consisted of 23 steamships, many of which had Jersey masters. They were the port`s largest shipowners by the early 1890s: The company changed its name in 1948 to Morel Limited. The business was sold in 1956, as F L Corbet wrote, "owing to lack of interest on the part of the younger members of the family and under the threat of heavy death duties": A Biographical Dictionary of Jersey, Volume 2. Sir Thomas Morel was knighted by Queen Victoria, when Mayor of Cardiff in 1899
