Le Gros family page and links to other trees
In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references
- ↑ Latterly of St Helier, where he was buried
- ↑ Maresq: Although the Armorial of Jersey, stated "Dumaresq", this surname appears to be distinct from the old Jersey name Dumaresq. Elie and Marie`s eldest child had as godparents Timothée Maresq and Marie, his wife. Maresq was no mere spelling variation, as Timothée was also buried in St Helier as "Maresq" (1658), not Dumaresq. The Maresqs were probably Huguenots, this being Old French for marsh -a common enough name in most North European countries. The Armorial is doubtless correct in stating that it was this Elie Le Gros who settled in St Helier
- ↑ Buried as Marguerite Guillemette, femme d'Elie Le Gros (1709, St H). The full surname of this family seems have been Mollet dit Guillemette as Jean Mollet (di)t Guillemette married in 1644, in Trinity, Sara Fiquet. In spite of patchy coverage, at this date in the Trinity register, of likely relevance will be the baptism in Trinity 5/7/1644 of "Philippe, son of Jean Mollet dit Guillemette." He married in St Helier in 1669, one Marie Maresq, who was probably a god-daughter, if not niece, of her namesake, Elie Le Gros` wife. Philippe died in St Helier in 1694. In 1652 the twins Jeanne and Sara Guillemette, daughters of Jean, were baptised in Trinity, as was Susanne Guillemette, in 1655. The latter had as godparents Abraham Guillemette and his wife. Abraham Guillemette was also, with his unnamed daughter, a godparent in 1672, in St Helier, of Marie Guillemette, the firstborn child of the above Philippe. Abraham`s wife, mentioned above, whom he married in Trinity in 1621 was Jeanne du Feu. Of the latter family, was Abraham du Feu, who married in Trinity in 1671, the above Jeanne Guillemette (1652- )
- ↑ Married as Jean fils Elie Le Gros de St Helier et Susanne fille Josué Langlois de La Trinité
- ↑ Her godparents were Elie Le Gros, grandfather et Marie Langlois
- ↑ Baptised as "Le fils de Jean Le Gros", that his name was actually Elie Jean is based on subsequent godparent evidence
- ↑ Susanne`s grandmother was Elizabeth Mollet, who may have been a relative of the Guillemettes, above
- ↑ Buried "aged 85", (25 February 1826, St S), but died in St Helier, widow of Luc Le Sauteur. Godparents of the couple`s children included Jean Le Gros, uncle, and Jeanne Le Gros, aunt (1771), and Amice Le Vavasseur dit Durell, who was a first cousin
- ↑ Baptised as the daughter of Elie Jean Le Gros junior and Susanne Le Vavasseur dit Durell. Jean Le Gros (1673- ) may have also used the name Elie Jean
- ↑ Baptised as above, son of Elie Jean Le Gros junior
- ↑ Charles` godparents were his father and Esther Le Feuvre, wife of Michel Le Gros, aunt
- ↑ Builder and property owner. His godparents were Michel Le Breton of Trinity, after whom he was evidently named, and Susanne Le Gros, his wife, thus providing the first of two godparent connections linking his family with that of Jean Le Gros and Susanne Langlois, his wife, above. An assignation of rente at Jersey Archive, dated 8 August 1807, records that Michel Le Gros was the son of Elie Jean Le Gros, as above: L/C/47/A/625
- ↑ Of Seafield, Millbrook (1821)
- ↑ MA (Cantab), of Seafield, Millbrook; Seigneur de Mélèches; Lieut-Colonel, Militia (1873); Advocate (1853), Greffier (1861), Viscount (1876) and Jurat (1894)
- ↑ Merchant and Jurat
- ↑ Colonel, Royal Artillery
- ↑ Executrix of her late father's will, dated 1911, with probate granted 25 November 1921. She died shortly afterwards, with her nephew, FG Le Gros, and Alexander Coutanche appointed co-executors
- ↑ OV; MA (Cantab), Barrister-at-Law, Advocate. Of Goodlands Cottage, Bagatelle Road, St Saviour
- ↑ OV, MA (Cantab) Seigneur de Mélches; Major, Royal Garrison Artillery. Died serving in Hong Kong - Memorial Inscription, St Saviour
- ↑ She married second, in 1950, Lieut-Colonel Philip Edmund Mark Le Gallais, of Mont Fiquet House, La Moye
- ↑ Seigneur de Mélèches; Property owner
- ↑ They had issue
- ↑ Of Profonde Rue, Trinity, artist. He died without issue
- ↑ Captain, Lincolnshire Regiment. He also served, as did his brother, in the Great War
- ↑ John Bertram Le Gros had a son and daughter
- ↑ Settled in St Mary
- ↑ He and his wife, of St Mary, were in 1741 godparents of Michel, son of Michel Le Breton and Susanne Le Gros, his wife. This is a second godparent connection through the Trinity Le Bretons to the family of Michel Le Gros, son of Elie Jean, above
