Descendants of Joel Manning



This tree was first submitted in 2016 and only went back as far as Frederick (gen 6) in 1862. Since then we have been provided with further information which purports to take the Manning line back to 1700 in Somerset and Devon. This information remains to be checked in detail, and our original intention was to add it in note form, attached to Frederick (1862- ) and incorporate it into the tree once it had been fully checked.

It was previously believed that two unrelated Mannings moved separately to Jersey from Somerset, but a further review of the tree in 2020 confirmed that a whole family appears to have moved together [1] and we have decided to revise the tree to show the full descent, with a warning that the early generations in Somerset, and possibly Devon and Ireland, remain to be substantiated

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
