This family originated in Birmingham and arrived in Jersey in about 1850

The tree was added to the site in 2017 and expanded and reviewed in 2018. Further details were added by Mike Bisson in a 2025 review

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

  1. ↑ Carrier and labourer. There is a dispute in online trees about George's ancestry. Some sources show him as the illegitimate son of Mary, from Birminghan; others show him as the son of John James Coombs and Mary, nee Singer, of Somerset. In the absence of any clear evidence to the contrary, we are showing the first of these alternatives, as included in the submitted tree. We think the connection between George and Somerset may have arisen because of confusion with another Coombs emigrant to Jersey - Charles, who was born in Somerset, the son of James Coombs
