Descendants of Guitte de Ste Croix

This tree was added to the site by a contributor in 2013. It was expanded as part of a 2020 review. It will be seen from the notes that the top of the tree is almost certainly full of errors

de Ste Croix family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Possibly Guillaume, son of Guillaume (1525- ) and an unknown mother. Online trees show Guitte and Raulinne having up to 19 children in 19 years, with no sources to substantiate this claim, other than other trees. The first seven of these children were supposedly born before the couple married, the earliest when Raulinne would have been only 14. The only baptism on record is for the last of the three shown in this tree - Daniel, but other sources suggest that we can be reasonably confident in his brothers Matthieu and Pierre. Further research suggests that Guitte could not have married this Raulinne, because she is believed to have married Denys de Lecq at St Brelade in 1582
  2. The reliability of online trees in a period when there are few baptism records, and mothers are rarely named, is further called into question by suggestions that Matthieu and Marie had 23 children in 28 years, five of them before the couple's supposed marriage in 1600. There is considerable duplication of given names in the de Ste Croix families at this time and it cannot be established with any degree of certainty which children belong to which father. Although we are reasonably confident that the seven children shown here belonged to Matthieu and Marie, even that is not certain
  3. No marriage record found
  4. Abraham's baptism in St Peter, which is confirmed by church records, whereas his parents were born and married in St Helier and all their other children were baptised there, calls into question his position in this tree
  5. We are not confident that all the children shown here belong to Pierre and Sara. Some online trees show even more, but there were at least two Pierre de Ste Croix having children in St Helier at this time and no mothers' names are given in baptism registers
  6. Twin

  8. Judith wife of Daniel de Ste Croix was, with Jean de Ste Croix, godparent of Daniel de Ste Croix, son of Pierre, in December 1632
  9. Godfather: Mathieu de Ste Croix, Grandfather
