Descendants of Jacques Filleul



This tree, added in July 2017, corrects a major error in Descendants of Jacques Filleul - 2 and also follows a different descent. Some key records are missing from parish registers and some records for early generations create uncertainty over whether individuals were born in St Clement, or neighbouring Grouville. It is believed that the family lived near the boundary between the parishes and used both churches.

There is considerable confusion in online trees over the identity of Thomas Filleul, who was married to Elise Ann Le Clercq. There were three Thomas Filleuls born in either St Clement or Grouville at roughly the same time. They were Thomas (1838- ) (St C) son of Philippe and Anne Aubert; the Thomas shown here (St C); and Thomas (1830- ) (Gr) son of Thomas and Elizabeth. Their marriage record shows Thomas aged 20 in 1853, and born in St Clement, which suggests that the Thomas shown here is the most likely one.

Most online trees show Douce Jane Perchard, wife of Thomas Charles, as Dorice, no doubt based on poor handwriting on a census form. Her birth, baptism and marriage records, and also the baptism records for her children show her clearly as Douce.

The tree was reviewed in 2022 by Mike Bisson and Philippe Filleul, son of Philippe and Elizabeth, and his siblings and descendants were added at generation 6

A search of the online Jersey Land Registry, otherwise available at the Jersey Archive, should resolve this matter, as it should the parentage of her husband, Jacques
