Descendants of Philippe Hamon



This largely New Zealand-based tree was submitted in 2014 and reviewed in 2019.

That review established a serious problem in the first three generations. A further review in 2023 by Mike Bisson established that Charles Hamon (1770-1831) (St J) m (1791, St J) Jeanne Romeril, previously shown at generation 4, did not fit in this tree, and he has now been removed and the generations renumbered. Although there remains some uncertainty about the first two generations, the marriage of Jean and Esther and the baptisms of their children are confirmed by church records, so the tree appears to be sound from generation 4 down

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

  1. ↑ Baptism in St Ouen 1693: 'Philippe fils de François Hamon snr. fils Jean pñté par Philippe Hamon fils dudit Jean et Michelle sa femme'. Philippe's father was François (1671- )(St Ouen) son of Jean Hamon (1644- )(St Ouen) son of Francois. These two baptism records are a little sketchy which why the tree has not been commenced with François Hamon
  2. ↑ Baptism in St John: Jean son of Jean Hamon and Elizabeth Hamon, GP Clement Hamon and Anne Hamon, his sister
  3. ↑ Marriage record states that they were both from St John
  4. ↑ Emigrated to New Zealand after 1858 and the birth of their last child but before the 1861 Census in Jersey
