The Rev Jean de Quetteville (1761-1843), Methodist pioneer

The original part of this tree was one of the first to be added to Jerripedia in April 2010. It was updated in 2018. It was extensively revised in 2020, by Guy Dixon, according to the 1920s genealogy of the de Quetteville family, extracted by genealogist Charles Langton. The tree was reviewed and details added by Mike Bisson in 2025. The Jean at the head of the tree is the same as in Descendants of Jean de Quetteville (1558), another tree added to the site in 2013. The two should be considered together. Early dates are approximate

  1. ↑ The genealogy by Charles Langton of this family, derived from court records and the notes of the Rev J A Messervy, has Jean as the son of Clement de Quetteville and Barbe. Another tree claimed Jean as "believed to be the son of Raulin and an unknown mother". This is now discredited. The court details of Clement de Quetteville`s heirs, of which Jean was the senior island representative, are unambiguous and contain no reference to an individual named Raulin

  15. ↑ Of Le Câtillon; churchwarden, 1797-1798; Centenier of St Martin, 1798-1802. When Elie was aged 51, there was born to Jeanne Noel of St Martin, a single woman, a son whom she named Elie de Quetteville. Elie, who was baptised 11 August 1815, was a Taylor, living in Maufant, St Saviour in 1841, with his first wife, Elizabeth Susanne Godfray, whom he had married in St Martin in 1838. He was for the rest of his life a Grocer, in Victoria Road, St Saviour. On Elizabeth`s death in 1856, he married secondly in 1857 St Helier-born Sarah Sohier, daughter of Charles. The latter marriage`s entry should have supplied the name of the groom`s father but it was left blank. His age, as shown in censuses, was consistent with an 1815 birth, although that given at the time of his death in 1867, shown as "57" was probably incorrect. Both marriages were childless
