Descendants of Nicholas Guerdain and Jeanette de Gruchy

This tree was one of the earliest added to the site in 2010.
There is much confusion about the early members of the Guerdain family who may have been present in Jersey as early as 1430

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

This lineage is recorded:
- 1 Nicholas Guerdain (1430- ) m Jennette Gruchy (1434- )
- 2 Perrin Guerdain (1462- ) m Perrotte (1467- )
- 3 Basilia Guerdain (1490- ) m Philippe Le Boutillier of Trinity
- 2 Perrin Guerdain (1462- ) m Perrotte (1467- )
Perrin (1490- ) who was the father of Michelle (1520- ) who married Jean Le Breton may have been the son of Perrin above
- Le Quesne and Dixon's book The de Gruchys of Jersey shows a marriage between Jeanette (abt 1470- ) and Nicolas Guerdain. Jeanette is the sister of Robin, born 1465, who is in turn the son of Matthieu (1435- ) and Marguerite Poingdestre. No other Jeanette is shown in the book.
However this lineage is also recorded:
- 1 Nicholas Guerdain (1516- ) of St Martin m Jeanette de Gruchy (1520- )
- 2 Denis Guerdain (1542- ) Trinity
- 2 Michel Guerdain (1549- ) m Catherine Coutanche (1552-1621) d of Romyen
- 3 Michel Guerdain (1567-1600) m Martha Stocall (1567- ) d of Aaron and Pauline Bertram
- 4 Pauline Guerdain (1599-1654) m Noe Noel
- 3 Michel Guerdain (1567-1600) m Martha Stocall (1567- ) d of Aaron and Pauline Bertram
- 2 Perrin Guerdain (1551- )
- 2 Miss Guerdain (1553- )
In some references Nicholas's wife is shown as Jeannette Gruchy but it seems likely that she was a de Gruchy and that the Nicholas Guerdain shown in these two lineages is one and the same person, and that the truth about his dates lies somewhere between the two.
- See Descendants of Perrin Le Guerdain and Perrotte for the Rev J A Messervy's version of the tree, which suggests that the second tree and its dates is the more accurate of the two above.
