  2. ↑ Pasquerel Machon died by 16 December 1591, when the first action was brought by his grandsons against Edmond Richardson, as purchaser from Dominique Machon, of the family`s principal home. The forename Pasquerel indicates an Easter birth or baptism
  3. ↑ Cour d`Héritage 6/328r, see below, which action could not have included Thomasse had she not been in the direct line of descent from Pasquerel, whose home had been sold
  4. ↑ The Rev J A Messervy, in his list of Rectors of St Peter in ABSJ, VII, stated that this was a French surname, and not one from Jersey or Guernsey. He wrote of Thomas Millet, below [translated]: “His mother was a Jerseywoman, of the family Machon, of Trinity [correction: St Martin], a relative of Dominique Machon...He came from France to Guernsey in 1568, and was some years there, serving in the ministry as Rector of St Saviour..In January 1586 he became Rector of St Peter.” There appears to be some confusion in this statement, as to whether it was the father or son, to whom Messervy alludes. It was the son who was Rector of St Peter, but it is unlikely that he was born to a Jersey mother in France. The arrival in 1568 'from France' was, in all likelihood, therefore, Thomas`s arrival from Jersey, as the son of a Frenchman
  5. ↑ Rector of St Saviour, Guernsey and of St Peter, Jersey, the latter between 1586-1614. Thomas Millet`s date of birth is, like others of an early date on this page, estimated. Thomas Millet`s curate in 1610 was Timothée Machon. This young clergyman, still in training, was son of the Rector of Trinity, Laurens Machon, son of Jean, who was of St Saviour. This may, with the choice of Lucas Machon in 1618, as godfather of Marie Machon, provide a future lead, in associating this tree with one or other of the families of these men

  7. ↑ Le Viel (1592) Cour d`Héritage, (20 January 1592): Dominique Machon is mentioned as having sold, by that date, his house and outbuildings to Edmond Richardson. Further hearings regarding the property and its sale, were dated 1592 and 21 September 1598. In the latter, brought Thomas Millet, procureur of Thomasse Machon, daughter of Pasquerel, Dominique Machon is shown to have been eldest son of Pasquerel Machon : CH 6/328. Edmond Richardson, to judge by several Richardson godparents chosen by this particular Machon family, must have been a comparatively close relative

  17. ↑ Edmond Machon and his brother Dominique sued Edmond Richardson for the return of the house sold by their father, Dominique: C.H. 6/41,48 (16 Decembert 1591). His may be the burial in this name, recorded in St Martin on 18 October 1612, as he is described as Edemond Machon, des Vaux, the address in the 1640s of Jean Noel, husband of Edmond`s niece, Marguerite Machon. There were other properties in St Martin of this name, which means 'the folds or slopes`', often those above creeks or bays, but also those above valleys, as in this case. One of these was also owned by Jean Machon (living 1634), son of George, who should not be confused with those mentioned above. Likely places in St Martin to find a property so-named, other than at Gorey, were on, or part of the way down, the north-facing slopes to the south of Rozel Valley, which is where this property is, or overlooking Fliquet Bay. Both places are in Bas Rozel (eastern Rozel). That overlooking Rozel valley was, in 1849, still in Noel ownership. Directly above the farm are La Pièce Machon and Le Clos ou Pièce Machon

  22. ↑ Helier also wished to sue Edmond Richardson regarding the purchase of the property of Dominique Machon. This shows that the property had formerly belonged to Pasquerel Machon. Helier would not otherwise have been able to stake a claim upon it. He was hampered by the lack of co-operation of his near relatives who, by 1600, were probably unwilling to spend further money on the matter. His action was, in part, to compel Dominique Machon and Thomas Millet, as procureur of his mother, to participate in advising him: CH 6/400 (September 1600)
