Sauvage family page and links to other trees
In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references
- ↑ According to an excellent picture of Eliza Sauvage when middle-aged, that can be viewed at Descendants of Philippe Vibert (1490), the caption shown above might need to be amended to indicate that the lady on the left is Eliza. The original description may have been intended to be read clockwise namely, from left to right, those standing, then from right to left, those seated. Alternatively, the husbands` names might need amending
- ↑ Philippe's was probably the first of three burials recorded in St Ouen, for a Philippe Sauvage, being that of 1758. He was godfather in 1730 of his grandson Philippe, but he does not feature in the next generation, which began in 1758, the year of his likely death
- ↑ Either this Philippe (1702- ), his son or his grandson, all called Philippe, had a death and burial recorded in St Ouen in 1783 [translated]: "25 October 1783, Philippe Sauvage, son of Philippe, of L`Etacq, who had been shipwrecked in a boat in La Bouque [Old Norse for a channel or passage between rocks, such as that leading from the open sea to L'Etacq Harbour] of L`Etacq, the night of 21st of this month, buried." One of the other two Philippes will have been "Philippe Syvret of L`Etacq" buried in St Ouen on 12 December 1796
- ↑ His godfather was "Philippe Sauvage, de L`Etacq" -- being his grandfather. Had the father stood also as godfather, as sometimes occurred, it would have been stated
- ↑ Her christening entry in St Ouen, adds a further generation to this tree [translated]: "Marie, daughter of Philippe Sauvage, son of Philippe, son of Philippe, and of Marie Chevalier, his wife...". Her godmother was Susanne Le Blancq, wife of Martin Sauvage
- ↑ Godparents: Philippe Vibert, de L`Etocquet, and Anne de Caen, his wife
- ↑ Godfather: Jean Bailhache, son of Clement
- ↑ Of Haut du Marais, St Ouen
- ↑ Godparents were: Philippe Sauvage, Grandfather of the child, and Marie, his daughter, after whom the child was named
- ↑ "Mariner" (1856), though he already held his Master`s Certificate, dated 5/7/1851: J. Jean, Jersey Sailing Ships, (Chichester: Phillimore & Co., 1982), 147. Master Mariner. Jean mentions that the couple lived in Roseville Street, St Helier, and that they were (presumbly both) buried in Almorah Cemetery, as this was Frederick`s final resting place
- ↑ Of Woodbine Farm, Trodais; Master Mariner, at the date of his marriage and for many years afterwards
- ↑ Cultivator
- ↑ Master Mariner: Marriage Register entry in 1864 of his daughter, Louisa Anna Sauvage, and that of his son in 1868. Born in St Ouen, Philippe Sauvage lived, whilst at sea, in St Helier, but retired to Trinity, where he was a "Rentier," being someone of independent means, farming at the same time, some acres in that parish. He died a Monsieur, the old Jersey rank applied to a man of substance, aged 80
- ↑ Master Mariner/Captain, Merchant Navy
- ↑ Captain, Merchant Navy/Master Mariner, then Proprietor; settled in St Saviour. Farmer at Highstead in 1901
- ↑ Stanley Sauvage settled in Chicago, becoming a naturalized U. S. Citizen in 1914
- ↑ Farmer
- ↑ Master Mariner
- ↑ Electrician, Eastern Telegraph Company, in 1911: London Census (1911)

- ↑ Mrs Sauvage trained in Northern Ireland, qualifying as a nurse. After many years helping her husband at Dairy Farm, she founded Ben Avon Nursery School at their St Mary property
- ↑ Parents of William Huelin (1830- ) founder, ca 1851, of the firm of Timber Merchants, later known as "J.W. Huelin & Co."
- ↑ Elizabeth`s godparents were: Richard Descaudeville and Elizabeth Sauvage, his wife, after whom she was named
- ↑ Probable placement, based upon godparent evidence and her evident generation
- ↑ Fils Philippe 1740
- ↑ Susanne Le Blancq`s burial entry records her two marriages, the second to Jean Le Couteur. This, and her date of death, indicate to which generation she belonged and therefore to which generation her first husband, Martin Sauvage, belonged
