Descendants of Philippe Sorsoleil

This tree was previously shown as part of Descendants of Jean Baptiste Sorsoleil. However, after extensive research, we came to the conclusion that, despite the fact that Jean Baptiste is said to have had a son called Philippe, he could not have been either of the Philippes born in 1710 and 1712 (generation 2 in this tree). It is possible that he was a nephew of Jean Baptiste, whose family tree is now shown in Sorsoleil family of St Lawrence.

It is possible that there was yet another Philippe, and that the four children at generation 2 had different parents, but we believe this to be unlikely. The fathers of George and Elizabeth are not shown in the baptism register of St Lawrence, which is very strange given that Jean Baptiste was Rector of the parish at this time.

As can be seen, we believe that there is a generation missing from the records between Philippe (1712- ) and the Philippe who married Rachel Le Huquet.

But further research in 2018 has clouded the issue further and researchers are advised to study all our Sorsoleil trees before reaching their own conclusions on the correct descendancies. If you are convinced that a certain line is correct, please let us know!

In the meantime we have passed over the Sorsoleil trees in our 2018/2019 review and will return to them when time permits

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records.
