Romeril of St Ouen

This branch of Romerils moved in 1725 from Bonne Nuit, St John, to Leoville, St Ouen, in the north-west of the Island. This tree by Guy Dixon is intended merely as a stem for others to eventually build upon

Romeril family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. ”Son of Jean, of Bonne Nuit”
  2. Godparents: Clement Pinel, son of Thomas, and Rachel Le Mottee, his wife
  3. See below
  4. Described in the baptismal entries of most of his children as “Elie Romeril, son of Pierre”. In that of the baptism of his grand-daughter Esther in 1795, he is described as being of Leoville, as was, no doubt, his father
  5. Baptismal entry: “Charles, son of Charles Romeril, son of Elie, son of Pierre”
  6. Buried as "Philippe Romeril, son of Charles"
  7. Buried as "Philippe, child of Philippe Romeril, son of Charles"
  8. Recorded in St Ouen`s register, the marriage of John Edom to Marie Romeril in St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex, 5/10/1789. Edom accepted the unnamed child born before their marriage as being his
  9. Either of the last two female children of Pierre Romeril would meet this description: “October 1743, buried a child of Pierre Romeril,” as Nicolas is known to have lived and married at a later date, leaving Jeanne or Elizabeth. An unnamed daughter of Pierre Romeril was buried in 1732, presumably Catherine. Finally, in 1744, the survivor of Jeanne or Elizabeth would have been "the daughter of Pierre Romeril" buried in that year
  10. Of La Ville au Bas
  11. The St Ouen`s register, in October 1744 has the entry: “Pierre Romeril, who was baptised at the beginning of this month and not entered”! No further detail, despite remedying the earlier omission. Fortunately, the only Romeril living in St Ouen who was presenting issue for baptism was Pierre senior
