A well on Grouville Hill overflows and emerges at the opposite side of the road through a granite fountain. The water flows continuously through a metal spout into a granite trough and then down the hill, but it can no longer be bottled by the hundreds of islanders who used regularly to collect it for drinking water at home because the well has become polluted by weedkillers which have leached into it from further up the hill.
