  • Le Marquand: In 1901 widowed farmer Philip Le Marquand (1848- ) was living here with his sons Philip (1890- ) and Ernest (1893- )
  • Duveaux: Farm labourers Henri Duveaux (1871- ) and his wife Anne (1872- ), both born in France, were also living at High View in 1901
  • Payn: High View was in the ownership of the Payn family from 1957 until 1994. Alice Payn bought the property from Philip Charles Le Marquand, who had acquired it in 1912 through the division of the property of his late parents. At the time of the 1911 Census, Philip was in India with the 8th King’s Royal Irish Hussars. He later served in the First World, the Great War, with the 8th Hussars, promoted to sergeant. In 1917, during a period of leave, he married Agnes Louisa Ropert. During the Occupation, John Ropert, Agnes’ brother, was living at High View with his family.

Listed building

A mid-late 19th century house that retains its historic interest and exterior character. Mid-late Victorian rural house, circa 1860s/70s.

The 1934/35 Ordnance Survey Map shows High View to be the earliest property in the immediate area.

3 bay, 2 storey house, with rear lean-to extension. Pitched slate roof with rendered end stacks, decorated with moulded band. Front (southwest) elevation is cement rendered, lined in imitation ashlar with emphasised quoins. Wide central doorway.

Rear elevation to house has pierre perdu render on upper floor.

Lean-to has mono-pitch slate roof, rubble stone walls with brick dressings to openings.
