Notes and references
- ↑ Constitutional reforms in Jersey in 1948 in the wake of the German Occupation led to the removal of Jurats from the States of Jersey and the introduction of 12 Senators in their place. The Senators were elected on an island-wide mandate to serve for nine years. This term was designed to provide continuity, but was later reduced to six years, still twice the term of office of Deputies and Constables. Although it was possible to gain entry to the States for the first time by standing in a Senatorial election, many holders of the office served an apprenticeship as Deputy. The Senators were looked upon as the senior members of the house. The position was abolished and the 2022 election returned only Deputies and Constables to the States
