Datestones

The first three of these stones are classic examples of why datestones on properties should not be called marriage stones. The first two are unusually both dated the year before the couple married, suggesting that work was done on the property in preparation for their moving in after their wedding. The third was erected a full 27 years after the couple's marriage</ref>

Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

This fine collection of farm buildings retains many original interior and exterior features, some of which are earlier than the rebuilt 18th century main house. The house emulates the polite architecture of Georgian fashion but with a continuing local character. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.

Two-storey five bay main house with rear, north extensions, boulangerie, an L-shaped range of outbuildings to north of main house, east extensions, west barn (running diagonally).

Notes and references

  1. We have been unable to establish a link between Jean and Philippe, although the continuing ownership of Homestead by the Le Gresley family through two centuries, and the fact that they both married a Prouings, suggests very strongly that there should be. Online trees show Philippe as the son of Philippe and Jeanne, nee Jean, but this is contradicted by his marriage record, which shows him born in St Peter, the son of Jean Le Gresley. Despite what is shown in online trees, Francois was definitely the son of Philippe and Rachel Prouings, and was almost certainly born at Homestead
