James Whaite

Whaite's Mont Orgueil Castle

James Whaite was a landscape painter from the North West of England who lived in Manchester, Liverpool and Cheshire. He painted mainly views of Cornwall and North Wales and exhibited in London at the Royal Academy Society of British Artists and the Grosvenor Gallery. He also exhibited at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool. Like many landscape artists of his era he visited Jersey and could not resist painting Mont Orgueil Castle, although unusually he chose to depict it from the land side rather than showing a coastal view.
