Jersey 150 years ago from the

The Chronique de Jersey, published between 1814 and 1959, holds the record as Jersey's longest running newspaper

One of the best resources for tracing the development of the commercial life of Jersey is the advertisements for businesses published over the decades. Newspaper adverts in the early and mid-19th century were only previously available to visitors to La Société Jersiaise's Lord Coutanche Library, but after all the early newspapers in their collection had been digitised, a selection were added to their website in early 2024

We are currently researching these newspapers and have paid particular attention to these 150-year-old editions of 1874, from which a selection of news items and adverts are featured on this page. Please note that the page is still under development. The adverts will be reorganised and translated as time permits.

We have also added pages for Chronique adverts 100 and 200 years ago.
