Emigrants to Canada - T

Channel Islanders, and particularly Jerseymen, emigrated in large numbers to Canada in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Most were attracted by well-paid, secure jobs with the companies established
in Newfoundland and New Brunswick, on the Canadian Atlantic
Coast, to trade in cod, which abounded in offshore waters.

Elie Touet. From Jersey to Jersey Cove about 1840. Married to Mary ? from Jersey. Five children from Jersey, married at Jersey Cove and Cap-des-Rosiers.

James Tourgis/Turgee. From Jersey (probably) to Métis Beach before 1897. Married to Agnès Campbell.

Philip Tourgis. From Jersey to Gaspé, Québec and Trois-Rivières about 1830.

George Touzeau. Probably from Channel Islands to Montréal about 1945, painter. Married in 1845 to Harriett Aird at Montréal.
