Origin of Surname
Le Moignan had lost an arm, for this is the French word for a stump left after amputation.
Early records
The name appears in the Assize Roll of 1309, with Raulina La Maynene in St Helier and in the Extente of 1331 with Colin Le Maignan holding a considerable amount of land in St Mary. The name features also in that of 1528.
- Thomasse Le Moignan was born about 1550, the daughter of Thomas, and married circa 1575 Thomas Cabot
- Collas Le Moignan was born in St John about 1565 and had a daughter Jeanne (1597-1648) who married Jean Robert
- Isaac Le Moignan was born in St John about 1591 and married Rachel Robert, daughter of Thomas and Catherine
- Collette Le Moignan was born in Jersey about 1570 and married Edmund Falle about 1589
