Property name

Le Rocher Cottage

Location

Mont de La Mare Ste Catherine

Type of property

Single-storey cottage.

Le Rocher has been home to many interesting characters since its origins in the mid-19th century. From at least 1841 through to 1900, it was home to the Pallot family who lived at the house.

Families associated with the property

  • Pallot: In 1909 a swarm of bees was found in the skirting of a room in the property; the bees were smoked out, the queen found and placed in a hive, and a honeycomb containing at least 40lb of honey was found and removed.
  • Adye: This would not be the only time that bees could be found cohabiting with residents at Le Rocher. During the Occupation, Isabel Adye is known to have kept two hives of bees in the top front bedroom of Le Rocher so that they could not be stolen by passing opportunists.
