Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

A high quality set-piece composition in the Victorian Gothic style, with a good survival of features that make up its character. A terrace of three restored ornate late Victorian granite houses.

An example of the Victorian Gothic domestic style used by Pugin in the mid-19th century. Local variations to the style are provided by the mansard roof, which gives it a French flavour, together with the highly individual treatment of the stonework dressings, and elaborately carved timber detail which could have been inspired by Swiss or Austrian architecture.
