Hay making in 1939

Hay making the summer before the German Occupation. The pictures appeared in The Islander in 1939, under the headline 'Bringing in the sheaves' but unfortunately no information was given about which farm the pictures were taken on.

Undoubtedly some of those photographed would have been Breton workers, in Jersey for the summer season, and soon to leave for home and service in the French army, their stay having been abruptly terminated by the outbreak of war.
