Families and businesses associated with the property
- The earliest record we have found of a trader here is for shoemaker A P Le Sauvage, who was in business from 1880 past the turn of the century.
- After a brief period when W C Le Dain was listed at the property (whether as trader or resident is uncertain), Ashelfords, stationer, bookseller and printer, started in business before 1910 and was still here in 1990. This was the business of Francis John Ashelford, born in Alderney in 1856, the son of a labourer from Somerset. In his 1920 will he left it equally to his sons Francis William and Frederick Herbert, and his daughter Gertrude Mary. A condition of their inheritance was that Mr Ashelford's wife Caroline Ann, nee Ball, would have lifetime enjoyment of her accommodation above the shop and receive £3 a week from her children. She died in 1938, 17 years after her husband[1]

Notes and references
- ↑ A 1950 almanac listing shows the occupant as Mis F J Ashelford. This must have been an error, because there was no family member of this name.
