Listed building
Early 18th century building that retains its historic proportions and some features. A rare example of the type of small building that would have constituted St Helier prior to circa 1750. Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.
This building appears to be of considerable age. Its steep pitched roof and thatch drips suggest that it could date from before the 1715 act preventing the construction of thatched roofs within the town, though the act was not acted upon speedily. It is of such diminutive proportions that it offers an instructive insight into the size and types of buildings that would have constituted St Helier prior to circa 1750.
Mid terrace, two-storey, two-bay. Front elevation: steep-pitched red pantil roof, two small old zinc rooflights, granite chimney with thatch dripstone, now embedded in the gable wall of its taller neighbour to east. Painted render finish with ashlar effect on first floor. A pair of two panel timber sash windows, with horns. Timber shopfront at street level.
Interior includes a relatively substantial cellar, and early roof timbers, including possibly an A-frame construction and some very rough purlins.
