Historic Environment Record entry

This landmark 1950s building has a restrained elevation with considered detailing. It combines an elegant classicism with contemporary features which are well crafted. It has a well-handled canted corner section, and the long facades are broken in three window sections, which suggest a row of Georgian houses. Built in 1955 to replace an earlier 19th century store which was destroyed by fire.

Corner building. Three-storey with attic. Nine bays on Bath Street plus corner bay and four bays on Minden Place. Central entrance on Bath Street.
