Origin of Surname

From the given name Rousel, a diminutive of the Old French roux - red, for someone with red hair or a ruddy (red) complexion.

Edouard Rouxel, who changed the spelling of his name from Roussel on arrival in the USA at the age of 17 in the 1880s, with his wife Marie, nee Le Mercier and their son George. The family eventually settled in Southern California.
