Alice Greene's Olympics silver medal
Jersey has a long and proud tradition of sporting excellence. However, the logistics and cost of living in the island and travelling to compete at the highest levels have conspired to limit the number of island sportsmen and women who can be numbered among Britain's or the world's greatest in their chosen sports. There are notable exceptions, however, and this list below also includes world champion sportsmen who have come to live in the island while still competing or in retirement
Jersey-born champions
- Tommy Horton, golfer
- Graeme Le Saux, footballer
- Dot Macready, diving champion
- Ted Ray, golfer
- Harry Vardon, golfer
- Gabriel Poulain, world champion cyclist and aviation pioneer
Island residents
- Stephen Newton, Victoria College captain and county cricketer
- Derek Warwick, F1 racing driver
- Ian Woosnam, golfer
- Nigel Mansell, world motor racing champion
- Aubrey Boomer, golfer
- Alice Greene, Olympics medal winner
