A contract of 1876 (RP 262:134) concerning acquisition of rente shows that Clifton House was acquired by Milady Alphonsine Laure de Narbonne, wife of Milord Stephen Algernon Chichester, from the attorney of Jean de Caen, who had acquired it from Dlle Mary Elizabeth Ainge and Juliana Pitches Ainge. A later partage of 1898 concerning the same rente shows that it had passed to William Ainge Gunner (who had renamed it "The Ainges", presumably temporarily) and he had sold it to Henri Jules Challemel de la Rivière.
