I started researching my husband's side of the family after I started my own Family Tree. Unfortunately his mother was adopted and we are unable to confirm any information regarding her real parents. The files were sealed. My husband is Bruce Lawrence AUBERT. His father was Jack AUBERT, however the government of Canada believe him to be JOHN AUBERT but we have no proof of that. His father was PIERRE EMILE AUBERT whose parents anglicized his name to PETER EMIL AUBERT in the 1881 Census when he was a lad of 7 years. When he left St. Helier, Jersey April 1911, Peter continued with the anglicized version of his name. Peter had been born January 24th, 1874, the youngest of the Jean and Marie Aubert family of 6 children. Peter trained as a tailor and on 28 February 1897 he married his sweetheart, SARAH BAKER (1875-1930). Peter seemed ambitious to move along using his skill as a tailor to seek out other places of employment. He sailed April 12, 1911 from Southhampton, England arriving in Boston , Maine on April 19, 1911. He was to meet a friend M. Tierney (or possibly Tiernay) who was in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He had $90. On June 15th, he returned to Jersey to communicate he had acquired a Tailor's position and the family were moving to Boston. It took until October 19, 1911 for the entire family travelling together to land at Ellis Island. By January 1913 Peter had declared his intention to become a US citizen. They lived in Boston until World War 1 broke out and what seems like an odd move, Peter falsified his documents making his birthdate Jan 28, 1879 and travelled to Winnipeg, Canada to enlist with the British Forces. He enlisted as a 37 year old tailor on September 3, 1915. Sarah was pregnant with their 4th child at the time and was unable to travel until April crossing into Canada April 13th, 1916. Peter trained at Camp Sewell and so far have not investigated his service to the British Forces. After the war, Sarah became pregnant with two additional children bringing the number to 6.
