Talk:Descendants of Jean Gibaut and Susanne Bertaut
The Abraham Gibaut who married Elizabeth Neel was certainly not the son of Edouard and Eliz De Ste Croix, but the son of Jean Gibaut and Marie Dupré. This Jean was the son of Abraham b 1702 at gen 10 of Descendants of Pierre Gibaut.
There is various evidence of this in spite of the gaps in the Baptism register. Charles Hugh Renouf became tuteur of children of Abraham Gibaut and Eliz Neel because his Dupré wife was a first cousin of Marie Dupré, Abraham’s mother. Gravestone of Jean Gibaut and Marie Dupré also has son Abraham d. 1790, next to Jean Gibaut & Eliz Vincent stone. Partage L/C/174/A/36 shows Abraham, son of Jean Gibaut and Marie Dupré as dying by 1793. This is definitely the same deceased Abraham whose children had Renouf as tuteur (appointed 1790 L/C/174/A/34) with various contracts then naming the widow Eliz Neel and the son Jean, who when he became of age, brought proceedings against Renouf for negligence in his tutelle (several documents with similar refs).
The footnote in this tree says that Edouard could be the son of Jean Gibaut and Marie Du Pierre but I think not. They had children in the 1750s so he would have been much younger. Charles Gibaut, an unmarried child of that couple, left a will in 1777 in which he mentioned brothers Abraham and Jean and sister Marie, but no brother Edouard.
Jean Gibaut who m (1832, St L) Marie Hamon (1798-1848): The 1841 St Lawrence census shows that Jean was fourteen years older than Marie. She was born in 1798, St Lawrence, and will in fact have been aged 42 in 1841, although her age has, in this case, been rounded downwards and his age slightly upwards! Marie was thus ten years younger than her husband. The identification of her husband as Jean Gibaut (1809- ) on "Descendants of Jean Gibaut and Susanne Bertaut", who was 11 years her junior, cannot therefore be correct. The marriage and its issue need removing from this tree, as they already feature on "Descendants of Pierre Gibaut": Guy Dixon
