Talk:Descendants of John Osment
In 2023 we were informed by an Osment researcher that John Henry Osment at generation 2 was first msarried to Ann Sturgis, and had two children with her before she died. He then married Elizabeth Britton and went on to have several more children. It is also suggested that he was not the son of Edward, as indicated by his marriage certificate and shown in the tree, but the illegitimate son of Edward's brother Martha Osment.
St Helier burial records show that Ann Lewis Osment, nee Sturgis, wife of John, died on 5 February 1862, of typhus, and was buried in the parish two days lateer. John went on to marry Elizabeth Britton on 11 May 1862, in St Saviour.
There is no marriage record in Jersey for John Osment and Ann Lewis Sturgis. It is probable that they were already married when they came to Jersey. They had three children baptised in Jersey: John William (1855- ), John Sturgis (1859- ) and Charles Thomas (1861- ).
John, whose second forename is variously shown in family records as Edward, Henry and Thomas, had seven children with Elizabeth Britton: Ernest Albert Britton (1864- ), WIlliam Herbert (1866- ), Frederick George (1868- ), Alice Blanche (1871- ), Edwin Henry (1874- ), Lizzie Amelia (1875- ) and Edith Louisa (1880- )
