Sorry, this is wrong. It wasn't John Bailhache who made the journey: it was his nephew, John Nicholas Bailhache. The full story is available in the CIFHS Journal no 127. John Bailhache actually went the other way: he returned to St Ouen in 1853 for a family wedding, an account of which he wrote on 16 August 1853, the text of which I have. --Jmbmac 15:46, 19 January 2011 (UTC)
