Descendants of Cardin Baudains

Baudains of St Martin

This tree was added to the site in 2014 and reviewed in 2019. The tree, by the Rev J A Messervy, in ABSJ, V, covers the 16th and early 17th centuries, for which church records are very sparse. Fortunately, it was extracted from court records, which are more reliable. Estimated dates of birth have been added, as have parishes, where known. Further parish information was added in a 2024 review by Mike Bisson

Baudains family page and links to other trees

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content

Record Search

If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.

You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.

The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references

  1. Fouageur of St Martin, 1564. His initials, E B have perhaps been misread at his home, Le Taillis, becoming "C B", with the date 1588, all of which agree with the known facts
  2. Seigneur of the Fief Guillaume Payn
  3. And sister of Jean Falle, Advocate
  4. Dame of the Fief Guillaume Payn
  5. The genealogy was primarily traced from court records, which were the source of information for this marriage
  6. From whom descend the Sarre and Payn Seigneurs of the Fief Guillaume Payn, at Le Taillis, in the north-west corner of St Martin, into the 20th century
  7. The marriage was found in legal records
  8. Of Le Vivier, St Martin
  9. The marriage was discovered in legal documents, such as court rolls or partages
  10. Of Anneville, St Martin
  11. Of Anneville, St Martin
  12. Founder of the Don Baudains

  14. Seigneur of the Fief de Quetivel; Constable of St Martin, 1632
  15. Co-heir of Sire Julien Baudains in 1569: Cour d`Héritage (July 1569, St Martin)
  16. Pierre Baudains married second the daughter of Guillaume Le Marinel of St John, the sister of Helier Le Marinel: Cour d`Héritage (October 1569): "Helier Le Marinel was sued by Pierre Baudains, in right of his wife, to produce details of the inheritance of Guillaume Le Marinel and Rogiere, his wife, and to equally divide it". Helier`s sister married Pierre Baudains. The surname Baudains was not common at that date and the associated forename Pierre, was quite rare. No other individual of this name has been identified in this generation
  17. The inheritance of (generation 5) Pierre`s four children involved charges upon the St Martin Baudains family and their kinsmen in that parish: see Descendants of Edouard Baudains
  18. Deacon of St Martin
