Descendants of Edouard Baudains

Beech Farm, St John, now called Beaupre, the home of many generations of the Baudains family and of their descendants, in a female line, Picot
This tree was added to the site in 2011 and has been revised since then. It was reviewed in part in 2019 and again in 2021 by Guy Dixon, when he transcribed a donated Baudains tree that greatly extended the record. In 2022 he added details from the Jersey Land Registry linking this family to their St Martin namesakes, and further information from a St John Baudains genealogy at La Sociéte Jersiaise

In common with the majority of our trees, this descendancy has been subject to regular review by site editors and checked against Jersey church records. Trees including French ancestry have also been checked as far as possible against French primary records. It is not always possible to carry out such checks on sections of trees with United Kingdom and/or colonial content
If you want to search for records for any name in this family tree, or for any other family name, just click below on the first letter of the family name you are interested in. This will open a new tab in your browser giving you a list of family names beginning with that letter, for which there are baptism records in our database of half a million church and public registry records.
You can also select marriages or burials. Select the name you want and when the list of records is displayed you can easily refine the search, choosing a single parish, given name(s) and/or start and end dates.
The records are displayed 30 to a page, but by selecting the Wiki Table option at the top left of the page you can open a full, scrollable list. This list will either be displayed in a new tab or a pop-up window. You may have to edit the settings of your browser to allow pop-up windows for www.jerripediabmd.net. For the small number of family names for which a search generates more than 1,500 records you will have to refine your search (perhaps using start or end dates) to reduce the number of records found.

Notes and references
- ↑ Pierre was almost certainly the son of Pierre Baudains of St Martin by his second marriage, to the daughter of Guillaume Le Marinel of St John, see below
- ↑ RP 2/115 (1606)
- ↑ RP 2/115 (1606): The partage transcribed and translated here, whereby Edouard Baudains, his brother Nicolas, and their two sisters, divide the inheritance of their late father Pierre, demonstrates clearly the kinship between the St John Baudains family, and that of St Martin. Note also the name Nicolas, continued over many generations in St John and that of their father, Pierre: Edouard Baudains, eldest son of the late Pierre Baudains and of Katherine, his wife, daughter of Richard Maret, together with Edouard Le Sebirel, as much in right of his wife as Procureur of Nicolas Baudains; Richard Le Sebirel, guardian of his children, in right of their mother, Edouard Baudains and Nicolas Baudains and their wives, children of Pierre Baudains and his wife, declare three parts of the inheritance of their parents: First part; chosen by Edouard Baudains [eldest son] the house, holding, farmyard, orchards, etc, Le Clos du Seigneur, and on Mabel Payn 8 cabots of wheat rente and la terre de la Vaudine", 3 vergées. From Michel Sarre, St Martin, in right of his wife, daughter of Jean Baudains, part of the inheritance of Pierre Baudains, father of Edouard, 21 cabots 4 sixtonniers of wheat rente. Second Part; chosen by Edouard Le Sebirel, Procureur of Nicolas Baudains. Third Part; chosen by Edouard Le Sebirel, in right of his wife, and Richard Le Sebirel, guardian of his children, in right of their mother, land in le clos de Montmagdo and rentes from Edouard Poingdestre, son of John, and from Michel Sarre of St Martin, in right of his wife, daughter of Jean Baudains, part of the inheritance of Pierre Baudains, father of the wives, 12 cabots, 2 sixtonniers rente". The wife of Michel Sarre was the heiress Laurence Baudains, Dame du Fief Guille Payn. Provision for cadet sons of a family was made from the parental land or income, such as rentes, as in this case. These were a charge upon the ainé's estate, payable each year. The senior branch of Pierre Baudains' St John`s family was shown to be the St Martin Baudains
- ↑ Initialled stone at Beech Farm, now Beaupre, Hérupe (St J): IBD 1668. In the 1668 Extente, Jean Baudains, in the discharge of Elizabeth Romeril, owed the Crown I Quartier 3 cabots of annual wheat rente
- ↑ Edouard and his son Simon Baudains are commemorated by an engraved stone at Beaupre: EBD 1711 SBD
- ↑ Commemorated at Beaupre, with his father, on the 1711 engraved stone, above. His godparents were Catherine Baudains and Thomas Maugier, her husband
- ↑ Commemorated on a stone at Beaupre: NBD MVP
- ↑ Godparents, the child`s grandparents, Simon Baudains and Marie Nicolle, his wife. The unsigned manuscript tree, used for generations 2-7, other than Romeril and Le Sueur details, has Susanne, instead of Jeanne, which was probably a transcription error. The parish register confirms Jeanne
- ↑ Marriage yet to be found, but elsewhere confirmed
- ↑ Settled at Beech Farm Beaupre, St John; Constable of St John, then Jurat of the Royal Court. Philippe Picot was his wife`s first cousin
- ↑ Marriage description: Jean Baudains, son of Nicolas, with his bride of Trinity
- ↑ Twin

- ↑ Twin
- ↑ The godparents of Marie Baudains, daughter of Edouard and Catherine in 1733, were Jean Baudains, his grandfather], and Marie, his daughter - her baptism is yet to be found
- ↑ Nephew of Jeanne Benest, generation 4
- ↑ Marriage record not found
- ↑ From a genealogy at La Société Jersiaise
- ↑ Edouard Baudains, son of Edouard, and Elizabeth Hocquard his wife, were godparents in 1735 of Edouard Baudains, son of Edouard, and Catherine Giffard
- ↑ Edouard Baudains, son of Edouard, and Jeanne, his sister, were godparents in 1728 of Elizabeth Baudains, daughter of Edouard, and Catherine Giffard
- ↑ Formerly regarded as an illegible first name, it now has been read and confirmed by children`s baptismal entries. It was the otherwise unplaceable Jean
- ↑ Formerly shown as marrying Catherine Giffard in 1723, duplicating the same entry above, which we believe is correct. The marriage in 1792 to Marguerite Hinson, as previously shown, of their son Edouard, baptised in 1735, is a duplication of the apparently accurate placement of the same couple on Descendants of Edouard Baudains and Marie
